| Dick Long, who directs the UAW’s
National CAP Program, told delegates that their retired brothers and
sisters are doing their part as well. In 2002, the retiree councils
requested V-CAP check-off. That first year, they raised $4,000, and
donations have increased dramatically since. Last year (2007), UAW
retirees contributed $853,000 to the program. The retired workers in
attendance received a standing ovation.

more than ever it is important to be aware of the legislative issues which
are being written and voted on by our local, state, and national
legislatures; legislatures whom we elect. These people greatly impact the
political climate for working families both here and around the world. The
Citizenship and Legislative Committee, most often referred to as the
Community Action Program (CAP), is the worksite political-legislative arm
of the Local Union and the vital workplace political activator. |
